Frequently Asked QuestionsWho runs Utah Odyssey of the Mind?
Utah Odyssey of the Mind is a completely volunteer run program. Our volunteers include educators, parents, and alumni of the program who are all committed to providing an excellent program to Utah students. To learn more about our Board of Directors, visit the About Us page.
Can you help me find a team for my child?
Teams are formed either by teachers or parents who want to offer the program to their students. School teams are limited to only one child from outside the school, but that is left to the discretion of each school if they will allow students from outside the school. Community group sponsored teams have no restrictions on where the students come from, they must just follow the division requirements. Utah Odyssey of the Mind does not place students on teams, nor does it keep track of community teams that are looking for extra students.
How can home-schoolers participate in the program?
Yes! Hundreds of thousands of students from around the world have participated in Odyssey of the Mind over the past 35 years. When students begin applying to colleges, they often incorporate their Odyssey experiences into their college essays.
Is Odyssey of the Mind a program colleges recognize and see as beneficial?
Odyssey of the Mind is a great extracurricular program for home-schoolers. Home-school groups get one team per problem per membership. Some virtual schools provide funding and sponsorship for OotM, so that would be the best place to start if you belong to one of these program.
