Getting Started

Creative Problem Solving

Start Odyssey Of The Mind in your community

The process is really quite simple and begins with a national membership to Odyssey of the Mind. The cost is $135 and allows the school to field up to one team per competitive problem per division and unlimited primary teams. Teams compete by division which is determined by the grade of the oldest team member.

  • Primary -- Grades K - 3 (perform at State Tournament, but non-competitive)
  • Division I — Grades K-5 (younger grades can do either Primary or Division I)
  • Division II — Grades 6-8
  • Division III — Grades 9-12
  • Division IV — Collegiate

Once a school or community group has a membership, then it is time to generate interest in the program with staff, students and parents to form teams, recruit coaches, judges and volunteers. Utah Odyssey volunteers are also available to conduct Information Sessions with parents and students interested in the program.

For teams to participate at the State Tournament, the fee is only $100 per team if registered by December 1st ($125 after this date). Teams are required to provide one judge and one tournament assistant as part of their tournament registration. There are no fees to attend coaches training, judges training or tournaments. Just come enjoy and be part of the process of teaching kids creative problem solving skills, teamwork and much more – after all, this is an odyssey, not a destination!
